National Adoption Month
14 Nov 2010: This month is the National Adoption Month.
Across the globe, While the demand for adoption have increased, the actual number of adoption have decreased.
From my research and observation in adoption forums, the biggest problem are the bureacracy and red tapes. In the name of protecting the children from child trafficking, they make it almost impossible for genuine couples to adopt abandoned children and those in the orphanages.
In the aftermath of the tsunami and earthquakes, many children were orphaned. Many foreigners were willing to adopt them but it was impossible.
Genuine adopters are asking why it is so difficult to adopt. THey have the means to help yet the doors are closed to them. As of now, Vietnam is closed. Some govt are not sympathetic.
In the end, the one who suffer most are the children. There has to be a better way to prevent child trafficking without preventing genuine adoptions.
